More California

Every few days we move our house to a new location.  It’s a different way to live, but we are enjoying it.  We have been working our way up the coast of California. Due to Covid-10, all the public gatherings are closed (sit-down dining, museums, etc.), so we mainly spend time relaxing or working in (or on) our trailer or out hiking or biking in nature away from other people.

Monterey:

We spent our honeymoon here many years ago, so it is a favorite area.  Walks along Cannery Row and the coast.  Monterey Bay Aquarium was closed due to Covid-19.  Dave had a beautifully scenic bike ride that included the famous 17-mile loop through Pebble Beach.

Pacifica:

Pacifica is a city on the coast, about 15 miles south of San Francisco.  The RV park is right at the coast, and our spot was about 30 feet from a cliff drop off.  In fact, there used to be spaces right at the cliff edge, but a storm in 2017 eroded the cliff and about 20 feet of the RV park along the cliff edge, so those original cliff-side spots are now half missing and off-limits.

We had a good (windy, cold) out-and-back hike/walk along the abandoned gunnery positions on the San Francisco Peninsula and across the Golden Gate Bridge.  Also a chilly hike out to Pedro Point, but the top of the point was in the fog bank, so we only had glimpses of the ocean and beach below.  Our trailer back window faced the ocean so we watched Humpback whales cruise near shore and then breaching further out to sea.

Morgan Hill

Morgan Hill is inland and a bit south of San Jose, so it was much warmer than the coastal locations.  Dave rode his bike in the hills to the west of Morgan Hill, and we hiked an absolutely beautiful trail through a redwood forest to Mount Madonna.

Next up:  Russian River near Cloverdale, then all the way up to Crescent City at the northern edge of California.
