So much for writing weekly, or every two weeks, or monthly. It will happen when it happens. We have been extra busy over the past few months due to taking on some additional roles here in the Cambodia Mission. Our Office Couple needed to leave at the end of June for medical reasons, so in addition to education projects, some additional roles were added to our plate: Finance Secretary, Senior Missionary Housing Coordinator, Travel Secretary. So this has us doing important but not especially newsworthy things. That leaves us with less time to write, and less to write about.

And here is the view from the window in the Office at the Mission Home. Occassionally the security guard walks past the window, which helps complete the prison vibe.

So let’s turn to some other interesting things we have seen recently. Just prior to taking on the office duties, we did slip away for a few days to Koh Rong , to enjoy the beach. Being at the beginning of rainy season, the tourist traffic was low, and we had some terrific thunderstorms.
We continue to help local students with the BYUPathway program, which prepares students to become online BYU-Idaho students working towards Certificates and Degrees. This program brings a university education within reach of folks who otherwise would not have the opportunity, which is really motivating for us. Right now we have over 60 Cambodians at various stages of the program, with the first group completing their last semester of Pathway Connect (the preparatory program) and beginning their university studies in January.

We drive a lot. Pretty much every day we see something on the road that we haven’t seen before. The Khmer are very innovative in figuring out how to move the most amount of stuff, with the smallest possible mode of transportation. So we’ll leave you with a sampling of our latest “hey, look at that” moments:
