R&R&R: Rest, Relaxation and Rehab

My sciatica ended our last trip a couple weeks early. Couldn’t sit really, or bend down to put on socks, tie shoes etc. We headed home from Tokyo for some treatment in the US.    (Click here to see an MRI of the nerve compression…. or not) After some lumbar steroid epidural injections and a dozen rehab sessions with these guys, augmented with lots of home sessions, the pain is gone, my range of motion is back.   Roughly 8 weeks from first onset (and serious worry) to basically gone. Stretching, spinal decompression and core strengthening sessions are now a regular routine, which hopefully avoids any future episodes and the need for more injections.  Nothing like a few weeks of chronic pain to help develop empathy to those that live with chronic pain indefinitely…

St George, Utah

We were mostly homebodies during our roughly 6 weeks in St George. Family came to visit and it was great to spend time with kids, spouses, grandkids as well as family living here in the St George area.  It was wonderful to celebrate Christmas, New Year’s Day and three birthday parties with family.  We also hosted a quilt retreat week with the Sipherd sisters and friends. Lots of fun with friends and family.

BDay party for my parent’s (center) 91st! Thanks Trish for hosting a fun party!

Nassau, Bahamas

As of February 10th, we are back on the road, currently spending several weeks in the Bahamas at a friend’s house (thanks Tenny and Rob!) with an upcoming 10 day visit from some family while here. Then some time in Puerto Rico and a cruise to the southern Caribbean. We haven’t made specific plans after that except to be back in St George for 10 days in May.
