Texas to Florida

Livingston, TX

Livingston Texas lies over an hour north of Houston.  We were there partly because it is our legal domicile, and so, where we could use our health insurance for routine medical checkups.  Susie went back to Utah for a week do some quilting and see family, while I stayed in Livingston to do some trailer modifications and take some walks and rides through the state park.  I also visited the Johnson Space Center, which was awesome.  I am a space and flight geek, partly because my dad was a naval aviator.

New Orleans

Next, we went to Fontainebleau State Park just north of New Orleans.  We went into New Orleans one day to visit the National World War II Museum, and to do a walking food tour.  New Orleans was pretty empty.  Normally it would be hopping with Mardi Gras coming up, but the streets were empty, save a handful of tourists, one street band and the homeless folks who live in the streets anyway.  The WWII museum was really really good, highly recommended to visit if you want to understand that war.  We were the only two people on the walking food tour.  The restaurants we visited were essentially empty.  Great gumbo, beignet, muffulettas, roasted oysters and pralines.

Panama City Beach

We then traveled to the Florida Panhandle enjoying a few days at St. Andrew’s State Park.  White sandy beaches, alligator swamps (though we didn’t see any alligators).

Next up: more Florida!

Funny your generation doing what Jean and Grant always said they would do

    1. Yup, they didn’t make a similar trip, but they did have a lot of other good trips and adventures!
