Wandering the Pacific Northwest

We’ve been to 5 different locations since our last travel post. Since we move every few days, we easily forget where we have been and what we have done. It’s like trying to remember what you had for lunch last week. Time passes strangely too. Things we did two days ago seem like they were a week ago. These post help us remember as it is to share with friends and family. It is still a bit strange to have a movable house and no permanent home base. There are pro’s and con’s to this lifestyle, but overall we are enjoying exploring new places.

Russian River, near Cloverdale California

We spent a few days here doing mundane normal life stuff (laundry, shopping, fixing stuff on the trailer etc.) The river was beautiful, and Dave had a nice ride in the hills above Lake Sonoma

Crescent City, California

A bike ride along the coast, where I found the first ripe wild blackberries. We have continued to pick blackberries throughout Oregon and Washington. Also a hike on the Boy Scout Tree trail, through a grove of huge, majestic old-growth redwood trees. These trees are hundreds of years old and so tall that you can’t really see the whole tree at once. The trailhead is off of a very windy gravel road through redwoods, so there were not many others on the trail. This was a highlight of our stay in Crescent City.

Lakeside, Oregon

Campground with a nice view. Some electrical problems and repairs to the trailer. We also had and a beautiful hike through woods, across sand dunes, through more trees, then dunes and finally the beach.

Chehalis, Washington

Our campsite was overgrown with blackberry vines, but the consolation was more blackberries to eat!

and more blackberries, yum!

Manchester State Park, Washington

We were able to visit with Amber Beckett and the boys (Peyton, Preston, Paxton) and enjoy hiking around the State Park. They It had been years since we had seen them all. We missed Justin, who is on a US Navy ship somewhere in Asia. Thank You for for service and sacrifice Justin! (Justin was our foster son for two years when he was 10-12 years old, and he and his family remain part of our family!)

Silver Creek, Washington

Things started out not great. The landing gear on the trailer was broken so I had to use the truck’s bottle jack to lift and support the front-right of the trailer. Lacking the right tools, we had to call the RV mobile repair guys to come and fix it the next day. It’s only money, right? The highlight of our stay here was the Skyline Loop Trail on Mount Rainier. More on that later.
