Bangkok Bike Tour
We rode through back alleys and busy streets. Street vendors to market streets to a huge flower/food market in a warehouse. Chinese temples, Buddhist temples, a Catholic church in an old Portugues district. Ferry crossings, road crossings, potholes, narrow passages dealing with cars and scooters, pedestrians and kids playing ball. Note the backwards swastika, which has been in use as a religious symbol long before Nazi Germany…
Pattaya Father Ray’s
We took a bus down to Pattaya to visit a children’s home. Father Ray’s (named for the Catholic priest who established the facility) has been in operation since the 1970’s and has continued to grow and establish new programs to serve the poor in the city. This is a great organization.
Pattaya Sanctuary of Truth
A rich local resident established this sanctuary 40 years ago as a way to honor the city and provide ongoing work for woodcraft and carving artists. It is still under construction, they expect to be finished in another two years or so. There is no way to show the scope and intricacy of this place through photos. It is huge, detailed and expertly crafted.
Pattaya Massage
$5 for an hour of Thai Massage around the corner from Father Ray’s. All four of us had massages at the same time. Perhaps the best $5 I have ever spent. No fotos, just a good experience.
The next stop was Ayutthia, the old capital of Bangkok and home to lots of old temples.
